Analysis of the effects of information technology on economic systems in times of pandemic

Abstract

This study is contextualized in the global environment that was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, emphasizing changes in economic sectors and work practices. In the face of this unparalleled crisis, Information Technology (IT) emerges as an essential component for adaptation and resilience, playing a vital role in preserving business operations and transforming global economic structures. In this scenario, this work aims to examine the impacts of IT on economic systems during the pandemic period. Seeking to understand how IT not only maintained business operations, but also played a crucial role in transforming and restructuring global economic structures. The proposed research question is: What were the impacts on the economy affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and how does IT contribute to its resilience and adaptation? The research uses a qualitative method with a bibliographical approach, whose orientation is deductive. The analysis is carried out in three phases: global changes caused by the pandemic, diversity of IT applications in economic sectors and the impact of teleworking. The results highlight the significant contribution of IT to post-COVID-19 economic resilience. Rapid digitalization, driven by the adoption of advanced technologies, emerges as a crucial strategy to overcome challenges and stimulate the economy. Telecommunications infrastructure stands out as a fundamental element in this process, aligning with the profound transformation in the world of work and structural changes in the economy. The study concludes by emphasizing that, although IT is not a complete solution, its importance in the economy is undeniable. The accelerated digital transformation during the pandemic not only maintained economic activities, but also caused significant changes in sectors such as education and healthcare. Looking at the post-pandemic scenario, IT continues to play a crucial role, driving the search for specializations in the area and strengthening resilience in various areas of society.
